My boxes are made in  exactly the same way as the Shaker craftsmen and women made theirs: without any glue, using copper rivets and tiny wooden pins to fix the top and bottom of each box into the lid and base bend.

The swallowtail closing at the front of each box, tray or basket is more than just a pleasing shape; it spreads the pressure at the join of the bend and helps to prevent splitting which could easily happen with a straight cut in very thin wood.

My boxes are all made from American maple and red cherry, but I do use decorative woods for some box lids and basket bases.

My boxes range in size from the tiny No. 1 through to the very large No. 12, and all fit one inside another.
